Structurally Speaking Corporation
was founded by Robert A. Connelly, P.E. to perform a variety of engineering projects and residential home inspections. Mr. Connelly attained his Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering with honor and a Masters Degree in Structural Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and has been in the engineering and construction industry since 1990. In undergraduate studies, Mr. Connelly was employed with a Geotechnical and Environmental Company in Atlanta, Georgia performing a variety of soil studies, which provides a good foundation for all types of projects in both structural engineering, construction management and the home inspection industry. During graduate work, Mr. Connelly joined one of the nation’s oldest engineering and consulting design firms with all branches of engineering and construction management. He continues to work as a senior structural engineer and project manager for several local facilities.
After moving to Augusta in 2000, Mr. Connelly has been assisting friends and co-workers with structural questions and recommendations for their homes. After having several family members and friends pay for inadequate inspections, research was conducted to find that there are extremely minimal requirements for home inspectors in Georgia, including the fact that training is not required! However, there are several institutes such as American Society of Home Inspectors that are trying to elevate the requirements of inspectors to protect the interests of the community, have in-depth exams and establish standards for annual continuing education requirements. Schools, such as ITA Kaplan, have established several courses to educate inspectors and require the students to pass a 3-hour exam to receive credit for the courses and become a certified home inspector.
With multiple engineering degrees, experience in construction management, design experience in all branches of engineering (civil, structural, architectural, chemical, mechanical, electrical, piping, instrumentation), registration as a professional engineer and certification as a home inspector, Mr. Connelly has the tools, education and experience needed to assist you with engineering needs and/or home inspections.
